Green Home Live Feed
We are currently monitoring and recording the construction of a green home here in London, Ontario, Canada. This is a great project that is being built with recycled materials, high performance windows, water conserving plumbing, and a bunch of other “green” features. The greatest aspect is that labour and materials are being donated by members of the London Home Builders Association, and the proceeds from the sale of this home will be used to build a garden in honour of cancer survivors. This is an issue close to my heart, since my father is a cancer survivor and my sister-in-law passed away from breast cancer a few years ago. We here at Remontech are helping by providing the live feed and the time-lapse recording, so this project will be forever documented. You can check it out by clicking here.

Bevery Willis
A few episodes back I talked to Coty Fournier on the topic of women in construction. This is probably one of my most popular episodes. After sharing it with Kristin Dispenza from Buildipedia.com – who was a guest on the podcast back on episode 14, she shared with me an excellent article that they ran on Buildipedia. Buildipedia interviewed Beverly Willis, from the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation. Ms. Willis started this foundation after being a woman in construction for 50 years. It’s a great interview, and I recommend you check it out. Highlights of the BWAF’s work include the annual lecture series “Women of Architecture,” in partnership with the National Building Museum during Womenʼs History Month; and the film “A Girl Is a Fellow Here: 100 Women Architects in the Studio of Frank Lloyd Wright,” which premiered at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum’s 50th anniversary celebration in 2009. Click here for the article.
Featured Segment: Interview with Debra Inwald from Works-in-Progress Associates

Debra Inwald from WPA
Debra Inwald began her career as an architect in nationally known architectural firms and then was a Project Manager in the courthouse unit for the City of New York at the DDC.
Taking what she learned from her civic work, she chose to bring her construction management experience directly to institutions and agencies. She found that they work hard to obtain the necessary funding and do not always have the in-house expertise to manage the projects.
However, as Ms. Inwald experienced firsthand by being a member of that team, there was great room for improvement and expert decisions to be had on judiciously spending the granted funds. Ms. Inwald founded WPA, with a commitment as the client’s representative to being the eyes and ears to their clients; to protect and maintain a cost effect plan and control spending, schedule and quality of work delivered that meet with their programmatic needs. WPA maintains impartiality and unwavering commitment to the project’s success.
Debra spoke with me from her office in Manhattan. Enjoy!
